The plug and wire extent out about 3/4' making it a long lever. The magnet is quite strong, and pulling the plug out straight takes quite a bit of force. Tap the wire or plug up or down however, and it comes right out. Such is the power of leverage. It works fine on a desk, but on your lap it can be a challenge to keep the plug in. This should be, and hopefully will be, redesigned in the next revision. The lever needs to be shortened.
The L connector design helps by removing the wire, but its not absolutely necessary. The plug itself is more important as it does not flex and is too long, Something shorter and fatter would be more effective. More (Read full review). Written by Eric O from Sunnyvale. The entire point of having a laptop is to use it on my lap, on the couch, in bed, or any other place I desire. But this power adapter does not allow for that as it comes loose at the slightest nudge. It annoys me to the point of searching the internet for 'tips' on how to keep the thing in there. (to no avail). Which led me here - where I just am going to repeat the cries of all the others that HATE THIS ADAPTER.

It's not that the magnet is week, but the design itself is faulty. Even the smallest force on the T-shaped connector acts perpendicularly, which easily hooks the connector off. The previous L-shape may have been a better design.
Last but not the least, I wanted to buy a spare adapter for home but $79 (+tax) for this useless adapter feels like a total ripoff! More (Read full review).

No matter how careful you are, the design and materials used for the cable are horrible. This month I had to buy the fourth charger in 6 years (90 euros each). No matter how careful you are, the design and materials used for the cable are horrible. The power adapter of my old 2009 Macbook pro (60 w MagSafe T shaped) still works perfectly after almost ten years, which proves that the problem really is with the MagSafe 2 85w. Add insult to the injury with the outrageous replacement price. Add another for the fact that this is a unique design and hard to find aftermarket replacement. On the plus side, it charges quickly and the magsafe connector did save the laptop from being moved by gravity to unsafe velocity. Other than that, a minor complaint is that the kit is a bit hard to pack neatly. And no, you don't want to tightly coil the small cable.
That thing is FRAGILE. Thanks Apple!

Answer With the correct plug the charger will work anywhere in the world that supplies AC power from around With the correct plug the charger will work anywhere in the world that supplies AC power from around 90V to 250V and 1.5 amps minimum. If you don't have a plug you can buy a figure eight lead with Japanese plug on the other end, from memory either two flat and parallel like America or The round pin Singapore plug. I have had no trouble running my MBP in the third world with whatever power was available.

Dear Apple I want to love you. I really, really do. You're making it difficult though.

I couldn't blame you when my old, T-style power adapter broke after a couple years. I was even excited when I saw the sleek, new, redesigned L-style.
However, that one broke too- but this time, it was after only about two months. I tried not to take it out on you, and figured that maybe I got the one bad one in the batch, or that maybe I had been too rough with it. But here I am, typing away, pausing occasionally to wiggle the cord in order to get it to work again- for a few seconds at least.
Yes, thats right, my SECOND L-style magsafe has broken, also after only a couple months. Finally, I'm realizing that it's not me, it's YOU.
And you just don't seem to realize that. I called Apple support only to be told that there are 'no known issues' with the L-style magsafe adapter. Dearest apple, do you ever read the reviews your products receive? Obviously there is a known issue, and its that this product simply doesn't work if you use it for more than a month! I've enjoyed your sleek design and better usability, but honestly, I think I'm leaving you. More (Read full review).

As for the MagSafe itself, it feels differently built (for the better), it doesn't nearly get as hot as the old MagSafe did (incredibly this one stays very cool, even on extended periods of time, although that could be because it's new.) Lastly, the actual connector is pretty innovative, feels much sturdier and less prone to fire/breaking/separation issues. It also wraps around a better/more effective contour. All in all, for $79 compared to $99, and the benefits i've named, it's a much better buy than the previous MagSafe (still overpriced, apple) More (Read full review).

However, paying an additional $79 for faulty chargers seems like a total scam. I have bought four chargers in 5 and a half years, and I have never heard of people going through expensive charger issues such as Apple users.
It's outrageous.Apple has managed to close contracts with the government, produce sophisticated encryptions, among other achievements, and yet they have not been able to create quality chargers. Also, faulty chargers are such a double standard for a company that claims to support sustainability. More (Read full review).

I lived in the US ten years ago and plugged my UK purchased Toshiba laptop into the mains using an ordinary travel adaptor that you get in an airport etc and it worked fine. I bought a Macbook Pro when I was out there - which is what I am typing on now and it plugs into the mains in the UK without any problems. You don't know need a 'convertor' - just an 'adaptor' If you look on the 'white box' in the middle of the power cable, it actually says 100-240V and 50/60Hz. The supplied power cable does the necessary work for you. So - I am using a US purchased MBP with the original US power adaptor and all I have is a £4.99 travel plug adaptor and it works just fine.
